- ΓÇó Disinfectant Version 3.4.1. March 11, 1994
-
-
- This version fixes an error which sometimes caused unexpected error
-
- number -192 when scanning an enabler file under System 7.1.
-
-
- The version 3.4 protection INIT incorrectly identified the new INIT 9403
-
- virus using the wrong name for the virus. This error has been fixed.
-
-
-
- ΓÇó Disinfectant Version 3.4. March 3, 1994
-
-
- Version 3.4 detects the new INIT 9403 virus. See the section on INIT
-
- 9403 for details.
-
-
- Version 3.4 fixes an error which sometimes caused unexpected error
-
- number -192 when scanning the active System file on Macs with System
-
- 7.1 and an enabler. Thanks to Larry Atkin and Werner Uhrig for helping
-
- investigate and fix this error.
-
-
-
- ΓÇó Disinfectant Version 3.3. November 5, 1993
-
-
- Version 3.3 detects the new CODE 1 virus and new B strain of the MBDF
-
- virus. See the sections on the CODE 1 and MBDF viruses for details.
-
-
- This version also includes a new color icon suite. Thanks to John Stein for
-
- contributing the icons. If you donΓÇÖt see the new color icons on your color
-
- monitor, try rebuilding your desktop file.
-
-
- Under System 7, the new version stores its preferences file inside the
-
- Preferences folder instead of inside the System folder proper. The first
-
- time you run the new version, it moves your old preferences file from the
-
- System folder into the Preferences folder for you.
-
-
- The new version also fixes an error which caused Disinfectant to crash on
-
- very rare kinds of damaged resource files.
-
-
-
- ΓÇó Disinfectant Version 3.2. April 21, 1993
-
-
- Version 3.2 detects the new INIT-M virus. See the section on the INIT-M
-
- virus for details.
-
-
- There was an error in version 3.1 in the changes made to the damaged file
-
- detection code. This error affected only a very few people with very rare
-
- kinds of damaged files. Version 3.2 fixes the problem.
-
-
- DisinfectantΓÇÖs preferred memory partition has been increased from 700K
-
- to 1000K. This fixes a problem scanning some specific applications with
-
- very large CODE resources, including PSpice and Intellidraw.
-
-
-
- ΓÇó Disinfectant Version 3.1. April 12, 1993
-
-
- Version 3.1 detects the new INIT 17 virus. See the section on the INIT 17
-
- virus for details.
-
-
- This version also fixes a few obscure problems which could cause out of
-
- memory errors, various ΓÇ£unexpectedΓÇ¥ error messages, and other
-
- problems when scanning certain very unusual kinds of damaged files.
-
-
-
- ΓÇó Disinfectant Version 3.0. February 24, 1993.
-
-
- Version 3.0 detects the new T4-C strain of the T4 virus. See the section
-
- on the T4 virus for details.
-
-
- Version 3.0 also detects a new version of the CDEF virus. See the section
-
- on the CDEF virus for details.
-
-
- We also fixed some errors which could cause crashes when scanning
-
- pathological files with very large resources (e.g., the ΓÇ£PSpiceΓÇ¥
-
- program).
-
-
- This version also fixes a problem with Aladdin SystemsΓÇÖ StuffIt
-
- SpaceSaver product. In some cases, Disinfectant would improperly report
-
- that compressed files had damaged resource forks.
-
-
- Note that this version 3.0 is NOT a major new release of Disinfectant with
-
- major new features. Normally, with Mac programs, a minor upgrade is
-
- indicated by increasing the number after the decimal point in the version
-
- number. According to this rule, this version should be numbered 2.10.
-
- Unfortunately, AppleΓÇÖs version numbering scheme does not permit more
-
- than one digit after the decimal point. For this reason, this new version is
-
- numbered 3.0.
-
-
-
- ΓÇó Disinfectant Version 2.9. July 4, 1992.
-
-
- Version 2.9 detects the new T4 virus. See the section on the T4 virus for
-
- details.
-
-
-
- ΓÇó Disinfectant Version 2.8. April 19, 1992.
-
-
- Version 2.8 detects the new CODE 252 virus. See the section on the CODE
-
- 252 virus for details.
-
-
- Version 2.8 also corrects an error in version 2.7.1 which caused crashes
-
- during or after scans on the Mac Plus and 512KE running System 6 with
-
- MultiFinder.
-
-
- The protection INIT no longer checks the System file for viruses at
-
- startup time. This makes the INIT smaller, more efficient, and more
-
- robust.
-
-
- Version 2.8 also includes some changes to the protection INIT which we
-
- hope will make it more compatible with other software.
-
-
- The ΓÇ£ProtectionΓÇ¥ section of the online manual now discusses the problem
-
- of what to do when you want to use the Disinfectant INIT together with
-
- some other INIT which is supposed to load first.
-
-
- ΓÇó Disinfectant Version 2.7.1. March 25, 1992.
-
-
- Version 2.7.1 fixes a stupid error in 2.7 which can cause crashes during
-
- or after scans.
-
-
- ΓÇó Disinfectant Version 2.7. March 23, 1992.
-
-
- Version 2.7 detects the new INIT 1984 virus. See the section on the INIT
-
- 1984 virus for details.
-
-
- In order to properly detect and block the INIT 1984 virus, we had to make
-
- an important change to the way the Disinfectant protection INIT works.
-
-
- In previous versions of Disinfectant, the protection INIT always had to
-
- load last. Under System 7, the protection INIT had to be located in the
-
- System folder proper, not in the Extensions folder.
-
-
- These rules have been turned upside down in version 2.7.
-
-
- Starting with version 2.7, the protection INIT now must load first, before
-
- any other INITs. Under System 7, the protection INIT must be located in
-
- the Extensions folder, not in the System folder proper.
-
-
- The ΓÇ£Install Protection INITΓÇ¥ command in version 2.7 installs the new
-
- protection INIT in the proper location.
-
-
- When version 2.7 is run, it checks to see if an older version of the
-
- protection INIT has been installed in either the System folder or the
-
- Extensions folder. If it locates such an older version, it presents an alert
-
- asking if you want to install the new version. If you click the ΓÇ£InstallΓÇ¥
-
- button, the old version is removed and the new version is installed.
-
-
- In previous versions, several users reported ΓÇ£Unexpected error -194ΓÇ¥
-
- errors when trying to install or save the protection INIT. We were finally
-
- able to reproduce this problem and find its cause. Version 2.7 fixes the
-
- error.
-
-
- Many users have had problems trying to build a System 6 Virus Tools disk
-
- because they could not fit System, Finder, and Disinfectant on a single
-
- 800K floppy. We now recommend building this disk without a copy of
-
- Finder and making Disinfectant the startup program. This should solve the
-
- problem.
-
-
- We have added a new ΓÇ£Known ProblemsΓÇ¥ section to the document. This
-
- section lists in one location all of the known problems with Disinfectant
-
- and all of the known incompatibilities between Disinfectant and other
-
- software.
